The ongoing wet weather has raised a number of workplace rights and issues for workers in construction industry in Canberra.

Firstly, a lot of workers who are casual are being stood down, which means no more money coming in, which in turn puts them and their families under severe financial hardship.

This only strengthens the resolve of the CFMEU to continue to fight for full-time jobs, with proper union wages and conditions that protect workers and their families, so they are covered for rainy days and other situations that prevent them from working, like this one.

The other issue in wet weather is to ensure safe working conditions. Wet weather increases the danger of construction sites.  Don’t put your lives at risk! Call the union immediately if conditions are hazardous at your site your employer is forcing you to work unsafely.
