Ahead of the Tuesday start, Australia’s peak union body held a Youth Congress at Unions NSW this morning – a first for the movement. The purpose of ACTU Youth Congress is to engage with and empower young people to have a discussion about their role in unions. “It's also about helping to build a new type of collectivism that brings unionism into the 21st century,” the ACTU says.
This year’s Congress has plenty of 21st century social media programs as well to make proceedings more accessible to those unable to attend. Plenary sessions can be watched live online, and you can join the debate via Twitter and Facebook.
Official Congress bloggers are providing news and views from insider Congress and the ACTU will be sharing pictures, videos, and vox pops to keep everyone in the know and give more people a chance to participate.
