The CFMEU National Women’s Newsletter for February 2012 can now be downloaded from this website.

The Newsletter reports on the CFMEU Women’s Committee and Women in Industry Conferences from November last year, including seven priorities to be taken to the CFMEU Executive to address the needs of its women members.

Australian companies will also have to adhere to stricter rules on equal opportunity to ensure they are eligible for Government contracts and industry assistance, the newsletter reports.  Under changes to the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Act (now known as the Workplace Gender Equality Agency), the Government will require companies to report on how many women they employ, what work arrangements are in place to encourage women’s participation and for what work women are being employed. Failure to report for two years without adequate explanation will attract penalties.
