  • TAS, Gunns Pulp Mill at Bell Bay

Earth works commenced at Gunns' Pulp Mill in Bell Bay in late August 2011. Photos here were taken on December 20, 2011. The 60 hectare site centres on two buildings making the pulp and a fibre line: everything else on the site supports these operations, including a dedicated wharf on the riverfront, from which the product will be shipped to market.

If finance is secured, the construction project will employ 2500 workers. All seven local tenderers for the earth works are engaged in some capacity, under the joint-venture project management of John Holland and Hazell Brothers.

The work is being undertaken under strict environmental and heritage controls. The CFMEU is negotiating a site agreement with Gunns for the construction project.
